The amount someone is willing to pay does not fully describe the value of a painting or print.<br /><br />Time tells us what art has value, and what that value may be in financial terms, and who crassly copied others for profit, but provided little or no art value.<br /><br />Either way, I'd rather be a struggling artist with something to say, than a successful artist who only says what he or she can sell.<br /><br />You can find artful ways to expression and create something people want to buy, but when the purpose to sell trumps the need to expression, crap is the end product- some will still call it art, and it still deserves legal protection, even crap art expresses its crappiness.
