Is it spelled Minorcans or is it Menorcans ?
New plaque on St. George Street

We have the info directly from the source. It is MENorca. At least that's the way that they say it and spell it in Menorca. If you ever visit, make sure that you see Calas Covas with its original "hippies"-colony: people are living in caves, transistor radios being their only contact with the rest of the world. We do not know where they get their batteries.

Watch for S. Darlingtons new book from Pretense Press: Early Menorcans in Florida (Courageous or Just Plain Lazy?)

According to Patricia Griffin's book, "Mullet on the Beach," a history of the first Minorcans in Florida, both spellings are correct--but was largely dictated by whichever country was calling the shots at the time... either on Menorca itself or in early Florida.

The British spelled it with an "i" whereas the Spanish spelled it with an "e".

As you can see, I hedge my bets.
