Our good friend David Thundershield Queen lost his battle with cancer last Friday, June 12. He was 57 years of age.
David was a passionate activist in environmental causes and Native American issues.
We will miss David but will remember him as a man of principle who lived his life accordingly. Read about David here
“I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I have not lived.”
Henry David Thoreau
Sorry hear that. RIP.
ReplyDeleteOh David! We will miss you! Thank you for your passion!
ReplyDeleteDavid inspired us all. He was a mighty warrior for truth and justice, and a passionate advocate for the downtrodden. His logic and reason in public meetings made mincemeat of all the "snakeoil salesmen" (as he once publicly called developer lawyer George McClure). We will greatly miss DTQ.
ReplyDeleteWhat a loss to the community. I admired his commitment to stand up for the things he believed in. My condolences to his friends and family.
ReplyDeleteIis there a memorial service? can someone post it here?
ReplyDeleteI seldom agrred with him politically, but I certianly admired his passion and the courage of his convictions. I will miss his letters to the editor,
ReplyDeleteI remember when he was David Taylor Queen, and when he got caught red handed, spray painting public property. Even with all his passion, he was a gentle soul.
ReplyDeletePraise be for those who have the courage to do and say what matters and to bring change to this tired world. He was eloquent, well read, gentle, kind, and brave. I loved him.
ReplyDeleteSing your death song, David, and go out like a hero.
ReplyDeleteHave a safe journey home.
Do na da go hvi. Aho, Joyce

DAVID & I SHARED A SPECIAL LOVE OF RACCOONS. AT HIS HOME IN ST. AUGUSTINE, HE FED A FAMILY OF RACCOONS. WHEN THE MOMA RACCOON BROUGHT HER BABIES, DAVID GLEAMED AS HE TOLD ME HOW HE WOULD LAY ON HIS LAWN AND LET THEM INSPECT HIS EYES, EARS & NOSE!
HOW I WISH ALL THOSE WHO LIVES DAVID TOUCHED COULD GATHER WITH US IN CELEBRATING HIS LIFE. ON JULY 5TH, WHEN DAVID'S FAMILY GATHERS TO CELEBRATE HIS LIFE, LET'S TRY & CONTINUE DAVID'S GIVING NATURE, THINK OF HIM & ON THIS DAY, STOP & HELP SOMEONE IN NEED. THIS WILL HONOR DAVID, WHO GAVE SO MUCH TO US.
David was an inspiration. On a personal note, he was very supportive when I found out I had lung cancer. I'm so sorry to hear of his passing, but I know he is no longer in pain!
ReplyDeleteDavid inspired me, cautioned me, mentored me and helped me to become a better activist and a better organizer.
ReplyDeleteDavid's contribution to St. Augustine can easily be underestimated. He will be missed.
Those who remember him already knows he expects us to carry on the fight, our own and his work as well.
We honor him best by keeping our passions focused and in check towards unity, avoiding disputes with other activists and seeking to solve problems, not inflame them with over-zealous actions or comments.
Rest in peace old friend, your influence is with me still.
