David Thundershield Queen

Our good friend David Thundershield Queen lost his battle with cancer last Friday, June 12. He was 57 years of age.

David was a passionate activist in environmental causes and Native American issues.

We will miss David but will remember him as a man of principle who lived his life accordingly. Read about David here

“I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I have not lived.”
Henry David Thoreau

  3. David inspired us all. He was a mighty warrior for truth and justice, and a passionate advocate for the downtrodden. His logic and reason in public meetings made mincemeat of all the "snakeoil salesmen" (as he once publicly called developer lawyer George McClure). We will greatly miss DTQ.

What a loss to the community. I admired his commitment to stand up for the things he believed in. My condolences to his friends and family.

I remember when he was David Taylor Queen, and when he got caught red handed, spray painting public property. Even with all his passion, he was a gentle soul.

  8. Praise be for those who have the courage to do and say what matters and to bring change to this tired world. He was eloquent, well read, gentle, kind, and brave. I loved him.

  11. David was an inspiration. On a personal note, he was very supportive when I found out I had lung cancer. I'm so sorry to hear of his passing, but I know he is no longer in pain!

  12. David inspired me, cautioned me, mentored me and helped me to become a better activist and a better organizer.

David's contribution to St. Augustine can easily be underestimated. He will be missed.

Those who remember him already knows he expects us to carry on the fight, our own and his work as well.

We honor him best by keeping our passions focused and in check towards unity, avoiding disputes with other activists and seeking to solve problems, not inflame them with over-zealous actions or comments.

Rest in peace old friend, your influence is with me still.
